Signs That Your Hydraulic Hose Needs Repaired or Replaced

Hydraulic hoses transmit fluids at extremely high pressure and speed making them vital to any hydraulic system. One faulty hose can damage the entire system and endanger workers. Addressing wear and tear early decreases downtime and saves money.

  1. Prolonged exposure to extremely high temperatures as well as repeated contact with any moving parts may shorten the lifespan of the hose.
  2. Rust and buildup are clear indications of pending hose failure. If the rust is red or orange, the hose will need to be inspected or replaced immediately. White residue is not a cause for concern unless it becomes excessive.
  3. Monthly inspection checks are critical in repairing leaks that can cause a hose to swell inwardly leading to velocity and pressure change.
  4. Cracks and kinks in hydraulic hoses must be addressed immediately.
  5. Even under the best of conditions hydraulic hoses have a ten-year shelf life.
